Pōwhiri
Preparing a Pōwhiri
Every term we prepare for a pōwhiri to welcome our new students and visitors to Cargill School.
We learn to mihi (speech of welcome), karanga (call), waiata and mōteatea. We practice on both sides of the tangata whenua (host side) or the manuhiri (vistor) role.
We like to make sure that our visitors feel special and given the opportunity to reply.
We also love it when we can join together and become part of showing the values of Ngākau Whānau, Māhaki, Manaaki, Kaitiaki.
Nau mai haere mai! Welcome!
